Serena Williams' first wedding dress,  when she married Alexis Ohanian , was a  regal ball gown designed  by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.   Incidentally ,Kate Middleton , Prince William's wife also had the same designer do her wedding gown.

Then  Serena wore  a beaded, feathered dress by Versace  for the reception. Later, she  wore a third dress also by Versace: a little frock with a short skirt,    so she could dance.

Pick out all the dresses you like . Watch out for any patterns or trends in your likes and dislikes. Do all the pictures you like have peach ?  Do you like a  ball gown like sillhoutte or do you like A line gowns? Identify the trends before you go shopping .

The theme of the wedding 
The wedding dress should be in line with the theme, the venue and  the grooms’s attire .
 Is it a day wedding ,an evening wedding or a night wedding? Is it in the summer months or the winter months? Is it a beach wedding , is it a garden wedding or is it a close door wedding ?  The wedding dress or dresses should blend with the theme.

Traditional vs contemporary look.
 Be open to ideas, colours and textures . You could not have imagined a rose pink lehenga with floral embroidery like the one Anushka Sharma wore for her wedding until  you actually saw how exquisite it was.  Be open to ideas and suggestions.  Look at the textures. Do you like georgette, net, Banarsi silk or organza ? You can have a formal ,traditional dress for the wedding and a more modern and blingy  one for the reception.

The Accessorries
Check out the  wedding dress with heels. Let it not be that on your wedding day, the dress turns out to be too short or too long . Buy a dress that is not too tight so it will let you relax  and breathe on your wedding day. Wear the wedding accessories and plan your dress around it. The jewellery, the heels , the hair style -all of it is important. Check out the saloon where the makeup will be done. You can probably have a trial run before the actual wedding.

The budget
Finally , the budget – All of this has to be worked out in a budget. The multiple wedding dresses, the shoes, the jewellery, the makeup costs and everything else around it . Let it be a dream wedding but let the expenses not disappoint you later.

Choosing a wedding dress or dresses is definitely daunting and overwhelming . Try to settle down on a dress about which  you like and feel happy  .No matter what other people say, it is your wedding day .You should like the dress today and 20 years later  when you look at the photos.
